Reasons Water Is Leaking From Your AC

water-droplets

As the temperature begins to go higher here in Pennsylvania, ensuring your air conditioner is in optimal working condition will become vital to your comfort at home. As long as your air conditioner is working fine, you have nothing to worry about.

If your AC starts giving you problems though, you need to get in touch with professional technicians for HVAC service in West Chester, PA, to come and fix it immediately.

A common AC problem that should prompt an immediate call to HVAC professionals is when the unit starts leaking water inside your house. If your air conditioner is leaking water, it is not a good sign. Are you confused about why that is happening? Don’t worry because we have you covered.

We will discuss some of the reasons your AC might be leaking water in this post so you can understand the importance of calling professionals for AC repairs immediately.

Reasons Water Is Leaking From Your AC

Here are some of the reasons your air conditioner might be leaking water inside your house.

Clogged air filter

When the air filter in your air conditioner becomes dirty, it can start restricting the airflow. The evaporator coils rely on proper airflow to remove the water condensing on them. If the evaporator coils cannot get adequate ventilation, it can lead to the water freezing on the evaporator coils. As the ice melts from the evaporator coils, it can lead to too much water accumulating in the drip tray and leaking into your home.

Clogged condensate drain

The condensate drain is a pipe that is responsible for removing the water collecting inside the drip tray and taking it outside the house. If the drain becomes clogged by dirt or debris, it could lead to the water building up inside the pipe and overflowing the drip tray. Gradually, it can lead to the water collecting inside your unit and leaking inside the house.

Faulty condensate pump

Your air conditioner relies on a small pump called the condensate pump to remove the water collecting in the drip tray and moving it out through the condensate drain. If your air conditioner’s condensate pump stops working, it will no longer remove the water and lead to the water overflowing in the unit and leaking into your home.

Low refrigerant levels

If your air conditioner’s refrigerant levels are low, it can cause the coils to freeze up. When the condensing water freezes on the coils, it can lead to your air conditioner ending its cooling cycle much faster than it should. When the ice eventually melts, it can cause the drip pan to overflow and lead to water leaks inside the house.
